3 ways to use mirrors to make a room look bigger

3 min read Glass Shop

When mirrors are strategically incorporated into your interior décor, they can do much than just show your reflection. They can brighten rooms, liven up the décor, and create the illusion of more space. Mirrors reflect light and when placed near or across from a window will transform dull corners into light-absorbing spaces. We have looked at 3 ways you can use mirrors to transfer your interior and create uplifting and spacious rooms.

More about our custom mirrors

1. Use a long mirror horizontally to create a wider space

Long mirrors are a great way to make any space feel wider. When facing the mirror, you will still be able to see the room that is behind you, creating the illusion of a more spacious area. Here we have installed a bespoke mirror onto a wall of a kitchen. Placing it under the cupboards, which would normally be a dark and dull area, is now reflecting the light from the other side of the room. The space is now a much brighter place to entertain and cook.

On the other hand, A long mirror placed vertically would have a similar effect but would make the room appear taller.

2. Use your homes interior mouldings

Traditional homes may have some amazing mouldings that add to the character of each room. Use them to your advantage and integrate a bespoke mirror: this way you are not distracting from the unique details of your home but enhancing them. It will be a grand focal point and will also brighten any alcoves.

3. Display multiple mirrors

Displaying multiple mirrors within a single room, not only looks great but allows light to be reflected in different directions: not just brightening a corner but a whole space. Whether you want to hang them next to each other or on opposite walls, you will see the benefits when the sun shines through. Another advantage of having mirrors hung opposite one another is that you will be able to see the room (and yourself) in different angles without moving!
