A Day in the Life of a Sheerwater Glass "Glass and Glazing Manager"
As one of Sheerwater Glass’ longest serving members of staff, Glass and Glazing Manager Phil has seen many changes to the company over the past 22 years. Today we met up with him to learn about his invaluable role with the company.
What aspects of the business have changed the most since you first started working here?
Customer requirements have become more complicated and their expectations have risen. Meeting these targets can present challenges in both good and bad ways. Technology has improved drastically but dragging myself into the 21st century has been a rewarding experience!
What was your role in the Glass Shop before you became a Manager?
I was the Service Engineer in the Windows Dept for many years.
Talk us through a typical day.
My days are busy and always varied but I always try to get into work early to be prepared for the arrival of others. It’s always a bit chaotic first thing, but once the dust has settled I then deal with enquires via email, telephone and at the sales counter. I make sure the team are as organised as possible and ensure they are aware of what they need to do during the day. I look after stock levels and deal with deliveries as they arrive. I cut glass as required and I'm generally a point of help to other members of staff.
What skills do you need to carry out your job?
Good listening and organisational skills. The ability to get to the bottom of and resolve problems.
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
Getting jobs completed to customer’s satisfaction.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Relaxing, cooking and watching sport.
What is your biggest achievement?
It's not work related I know, but I’m very proud to have raised two, well rounded, responsible and rather pleasant 20 somethings!
